CONNECTICUT JR. HUSKIES MITE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
 

The Connectitut Jr. Huskies MDP program runs September 8, 2018 thru March 9, 2019

 

TRAINING SESSIONS
Saturday @ 9:00 AM and Thursday @ 4:50 PM
Fifty minute sessions
 
CROSS ICE GAMES!!!
In addition to the Training Sessions, cross ice games will be incorporated beginning in November
Home Games and Limited Travel Games

 

 

PROGRAM OUTLINE

USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM)

2010 birth year and younger
Learn to Skate program is a prerequisite

FUN! - Hockey should be fun for the player

The kids should love to come to the rink whether it’s for practice or for a game
Skills will be the emphasis
Practice will be run as a clinic environment
Players will be kept active by dividing into stations and working with players of equal skill
Small area games will be used frequently
Reinforcement of previous lessons and repetition are key to acquiring the basic skills needed to advance the player
Equal or balanced ice time for game situations

SKATING SKILLS
Basic stance - proper posture; knees bent, back straight, head up, stick on ice
Getting back to your feet after a fall
Two foot glide
One foot glide
T-push
Glide turns – inside/outside edge control
Crossovers
Stopping, V- stop, hockey stop - one foot and two feet
Forward stride
Backward C-cut
 
PUCK SKILLS
Proper grip of stick
Stick-handling
Passing – forehand/backhand
Receiving – forehand/backhand
Shooting – forehand/backhand
 
TEAM SKILLS
Players will learn to function as a team by doing drills together and interacting both on and off the ice
Respect for players, coaches, official and parents
Listening at all times
Positions - NONE
 
EQUIPMENT
   Proper sizing of all equipment is essential for player safety and playing effectiveness
Skates- must fit properly; used skates are OK
Helmet, with mask
Gloves
Stick- cut at the nose when standing on skates. Wooden sticks are good at this age
Shin pads
Elbow pads
Undergarment layers
Protective cup
Hockey socks or sweat pants
Garter belt or shorts with Velcro to hold up socks
Hockey pants
